Bullet Proof Coffee -- What's the Deal?

In the recent year I've become a huge fan of bullet proof coffees and incorporating them into my daily routine. Bullet proof coffee first came about with the Keto diet and people adding butter to their morning joe. Since then it has turned into a movement with various recipes, benefits, and ideas behind it.

Personally, I can only speak to my experience but I recommend and encourage you to try different ingredients, brands, and combinations to meet your own health goals and preference.

I started drinking bullet proof because I'v been battling chronic injuries from my gymnastics days. Bum knees, a pars spinal fracture, inflammation in my hands, migraines, etc. etc. etc. I started adding this to my diet in hopes of having a daily anti-inflammatory, as well as supplements that will help strengthen me. At first I was really skeptical, and honestly it takes a couple weeks to get used to, but several months later I can say that the benefits are addicting.

For starters, my hair is longer and stronger than it's ever been in my life. My skin is clearer and softer, nails are healthier, and I keep getting compliments on my "natural glow". I have also noticed that my weight is steadier and I'm not bloating as much, even during my cycle. I would also say that my muscle tone is more defined and I feel leaner overall.

Internally, I can attest that I don't get as hungry in the morning or in the mid afternoon. My focus is sharper, I feel like I have more stamina when taking back-to-back appointments at work, and I am having less flair ups with my hands. My caffeine intake is also lower as I feel satisfied with just one cup of coffee (rather than my usually 2-3 in a morning).

Sounds amazing right? All in your morning coffee that you drink every morning anyway! However, I want to add that I was hesitant at first to give up my comfort coffee and creamer. It's one of the things I look forward to most in the morning and I was reluctant to give it up. What I will also say though, is that since starting this routine I have never looked back and just coffee and cream doesn't cut it anymore.

My personal recipe is kind of a take on the Dutch Bros Cocomo, as listed here:

  • Coffee (whatever you prefer)

  • Collagen Powder

  • Cocoa Powder

  • Rae Wellness Hydration Serum

  • Apothekary "Mind over Matter"

  • Carrington Coconut Oil Ghee mixture

  • Plain cream or half and half

  • Blend

  • Top with whipped cream
