Five Ways to Level-Up this Summer

As we reach that halfway mark for 2019 it’s a great time to reflect on how you want the rest of the year to look.

What are your goals?

What have you accomplished so far?

What are some things you want to check off your bucket list?

While summer is often the time to relax and rejuvenate, and the days are filled with poolside margaritas and vacations, it’s also a great time to prepare and work on that foundation for your future self. A time to expand your skill set, work towards something big, practice healthy habits, and prepare yourself for a busy season later in the year.

Remember, we want to use materials of gold, and those take time, and consistent, quality effort.

Here we are going to talk about five things you can do this summer to level-up and contribute towards your Boss Lady self.

1. Set updated and refreshed goals.

It’s easy to start January off with a list of goals and plans for the upcoming year but then as you get into your routine and life gets busy, those goals get forgotten or get left towards the wayside. As June is the halfway point for the year, it’s a good time to take a second look and refresh your goals. Think about what has changed, what takes priority, and what goals from January need to be resurrected.

2. Take up a new hobby or learn a new skill.

When we get into our jobs, classes, and daily tasks, it makes sense that we end up doing the same things over and over, day after day. Most of the time we are getting home and falling asleep before we even hit the bed. Which can get very boring and leave you burnt out. This summer, try taking the opportunity to learn something new or start up a hobby that refreshes your mind and skill set. Whether it’s creative, analytical, physical, or even social; anything new is something you can add to your toolbox and enrich your life.

Here’s a list of some ideas:




Weekly girl’s nights

Creating a book club

Mountain Biking

Get really good at makeup or hair braiding

Get a Skillshare subscription and take some classes

Line or Ballroom Dancing

Weight Lifting

Wine Tasting

Get really good at lawn games (corn hole, beer pong, ping pong)

Cooking or baking

3. Set up and contribute towards a savings account.

You know what’s coming in about six months…. Christmas. Now would be a great time to start putting away a little bit of cash every month and get yourself in the habit of gearing up towards those expensive seasons of life. Think about the money you spend every single day on coffees, take out, and late night online shopping binges. If you were to consciously save $5 every week from now until Christmas, you will have $120 to purely spend on that perfect gift for Mom, a holiday dress for your holiday work party, or ice skating with your friends. Just having that $120 of breathing room can mean a LOT when rent is due, shopping needs to be done, and you didn’t get the Christmas bonus you were expecting. This can also contribute towards developing healthy habits for your future self, and if you consistently save money every week you can build up funds for not only Christmas, but for vacations, large purchases, and personal wants as well.

4. Indulge in some new content.

When was the last time you read a really good book? Or started listening to a new podcast, or watching a new Youtube channel? This summer take your brain out and try some new content and get some different perspectives. I for one can tell you first hand that I get attached to my daily intake of resources and I have a really hard time letting them go. For example, I listen to the Goal Digger Podcast nearly every single day, play my select Spotify playlists on repeat, and will rewatch movies and tv series until I can memorize lines. I get attached to the characters and creators, but I know for a fact that I could use some diversity in my life. Therefore, I will definitely be taking this challenge with you. During the summer of 2019, let’s try at least one new book, one new podcast, and research into one new topic.

5. Decide on one thing you’re going to accomplish this year and make it happen.

This is different from setting goals because we often have multiple goals and different areas of life, whereas, with this, I want to do decide on one particular, tangible, measurable thing, and I want you to make it happen. It’s beyond a goal, it’s a plan. Whether it’s starting a degree, getting a promotion, finishing a project, getting to a goal weight or number in your bank account, I want you to set up a game plan for the rest of the year. Make a list of everything that needs to be done, lay out exactly what you’re going to do, and set a timeline for when elements are going to happen. Then when you accomplish whatever your end game is... CELEBRATE big time! This is not going to be a wasted year and it is not too late. Decide and conquer girlfriend, you got this!

Think of summer as a couple of months where you get to relax, reinvent, and improve yourself. Spend a few weeks working on yourself so that you can spend the rest of the year as a leveled-up, motivated, and inspiring version of yourself. Go get that sun-kissed skin and glow girl! #FBL
