Mental Health

Mental health is a practice, not a “treat yourself” or a fix. It’s something you need to incorporate into your everyday life and routine. It’s not something you consider when you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am a new to the positive mental health sphere, as I’ve previously practiced workaholism, passive behavior, anxiety, and self sabotaging — thinking it made me tough and resilient. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m coming to truly discover that the only way to actually be able to take on the world by storm and do big things (in my case), positive mental health practices are imperative. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are some of the things I’ve recently incorporated: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. Morning “me” time. ⠀

I wake up an extra hour or two earlier, I light candles around the apartment, open the shades to let light in, brew some tea, and snuggle up on the couch with my journal or a book. ⠀

This starts off my day on a calm, positive note and allows me to acknowledge that I am in control of my day, no matter what my tasks may be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

2. Barre. ⠀

I love working out regardless, but I’ve made a conscious effort to sign up for every Barre class I can at my gym. These classes are held in a dark room, on your yoga mat, and while challenging - it’s very serene and relaxing. I think of it as a treat and I’m always excited to go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3. Silk and Sonder

I got my first Silk & Sonder journal last month and I am in LOVE. There are little exercises, weekly goal setting, and journal prompts to utilize all month long. They also change every month. 🙌 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

Journaling out my daily experiences has encouraged me to find the good in every day, as well as make an effort to have a good day to write about. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

4. When I’m feeling down or stressed the LAST thing that’s going to make me feel better is my phone. I’ve been practicing picking up a book/journal/or listening to a podcast instead. I physically put my phone in another room so I don’t get distracted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

I would love to know what your mental health practices are! Please share in the comments!⠀
